Er hatte sich den ganzen Tag über wie gewöhnlich in anscheinend guter Gesundheit befunden, und ab gegen acht Uhr mit Appetit sein Abendessen. Kurz darauf beklagte er sich über Schmerz gen in der Brust, die er schon einmal am Tage leicht und vorübergehend gefühlt, und schickte nach einer Medicin; allein nach wenigen Minuten wurde er schlimmer und kaum fünfzehn Minuten nach seinem ersten Schmerzensanfalle hauchte er sein Leben aus. Die Doktoren: Badiera, Benford und Cogswell waren gerufen worden; allein Sie konnten nichts thun als den Tod constatiren, der nach ihrer Meinung von einem Schlagfluss herbeigeführt worden war. Corner Daningburg wird heute abend einen Inquest abhalten.
