Grace Jelks Wilkie
Grace Jelks Wilkie, 93, a retired statistician and resident of Rockville, died of congestive heart failure at Shady Grove Adventist Nursing Center on May 5.
She was born in the Oklahoma Territory, the daughter of pioneer parents. Her first marriage was to E.A. McKee. She had twin daughters who died in infancy.
After her divorce she worked in Kansas City, Mo., from 1929 to 1940 when she received a Civil Service appointment to Washington, D.C. During World War II she was a statistician in the War Shipping Administration.
In 1946 she married her second husband, Henry E. Wilkie, a chemist and industrial gelatin manufacturer, and lived Buffalo, N.Y., until retirement to Chapel Hill, N.C.
She moved to Rockville following the death of her husband in 1980. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include her sister, Nettie B. Stevens, 98, of Brownsville, Texas; her son and daughter-in-law, Elwood and Joan McKee of Rockville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
