Born in Buffalo, NY on July 4, 1944, and a son of the late Thomas Therit Bowles and Frances Wilkie Bowles, he was the husband of Ann Rushton Bowles. Mr. Bowles served in the United States Navy Reserves as a Hospital Corpsman at The Philadelphia Naval Hospital. He was a graduate of A.C. Flora Class of 1964 and in 1970 he graduated from the University of South Carolina College of Business Administration. After graduation he became the first Licensed Nursing Home Administrator for Saluda Nursing Center where he served from 1970 - until his retirement in June of 2016. He was proud of the Saluda County ambulance service that was established on July 1, 1974, with having one ambulance and only volunteers.
