| 2 skiers die in Sierra (Reno Gazette-Journal, 26 Jan 1992, page 1) 2 skiers die in Sierra Bodies recovered from rugged terrain near Ski Incline INCLINE VILLAGE - Washoe County Search and Rescue crews late Saturday night hauled out the bodies of two men believed to be skiers missing since Jan. 17. A canine search and rescue team based in Marin County, Calif., found the bodies in a steep canyon at the 7,800-foot level, a little north and halfway between Ski Incline and Diamond Peak. Their identities could not be confirmed immediately. But they appear to be David Wright, 49, and Robert Richardson, 52, both of Reno. Officials plan formal identification during an autopsy today. “It appears hypothermia is probably going to be a factor,” said Deputy Coroner Steve Finnell. “They were not necessarily dressed properly for an extended outing.” Ski poles were found near the bodies lying near natural shelters. Wright, 49, was found dead Saturday in the mountains west of Incline Village after a skiing outing. A native of Concord, Calif., he was born Oct. 14, 1942, and had lived in Reno for the past 20 years, coming from Concord. Wright was a licensed practical nurse at Washoe Medical Center and was active in the Reno Singles Club. Surviving are sons Darin of Baltimore and Duane of Martinez, Calif.; parents Robert and Winifred Wright, both of Folsom, Calif.; sisters Kathy Roberts of Lone Grove, Okla., Carol Lucero of Pittsburg, Calif., and Roberta Turnage of Vacaville, Calif.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to noon with a funeral at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Ross, Burke & Knobel Mortuary, Reno. Entombment will be at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery. |
