  	Nelson enlisted in the New York National Guard and was assigned to the 102nd Separate Battalion Coast Artillery (Anti-Aircraft). The unit was inducted into federal service on 6 Jan 1941, initially stationed at Camp Edwards, MA. He received a commission at Camp Davis, NC in July 1942 and was subsequently sent to San Francisco to man the coastal artillery protecting the bay, where he served until falling ill in late 1943.

Her veil was fastened with lilies of the valley and she carried a shower bouquet of bride roses and lilies of the valley. Miss Frances Wilkie, as her sister's maid of honor, wore champagne crepe de chine with sapphire blue velvet and corsage bouquet of safrano roses. Frederick W. Winkler was best man and the bride's niece, Miss Frances E. Wilkie, was flower girl, carrying primroses and rosebuds. Miss Ethel G. Voght played the wedding music. The ceremony took place before the fireplace, which was banked with palms and poinsettia. Mr. and Mrs. Voght have left for an eastern trip and after February 1st will be at home at No. 608 Humboldt parkway.
